Victoria man wins Pacific Poker Shootout

Saturday, 23 August 2008

"I've played in many other tournaments but this is the largest poker prize I've ever won," said Jackson. "I'm so happy and can't wait to go home and share this with the family. I want to buy my wife something nice and my son a large Lego set that we can build together!"

Jackson takes $40,500 for the win but he wasn't the only winner during the event. With 684 entries in the events and a total prize pool of $316,800, there was plenty of cash to go around at the British Columbia casino.

Other players who faired well included David Chu Ming Ao from Vancouver who scooped $20,000 from the sold out No-Limit Bounty Hold'em Shootout that was played on the first day. He won another $2,920 for finishing 10th in the main event. While it wasn't the event with the largest prize pool, the No-Limit Bounty Hold'em Shootout was the most popular at the tournament. The sold-out event had a wait list to play. With the 300 spots filled, the prize pool topped $96,000. Also $20,000 richer is Douglas Merrier from Surrey who defeated 239 other players at the No-Limit Hold'em Shootout on Aug. 15. "Congratulations to all the winners" said Darryl Schiewe, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation's Vice President of Casino and Community Gaming.

"We are extremely happy with the growing popularity of the Pacific Poker Shootout and look forward to offering more exciting poker tournaments. Thanks again to Cascades Casino for doing a terrific job in hosting this event."
